Edgar Romo Reynoso

Edgar Romo concentrates his practice in international business and financial transactions focusing on banking, financial, securities and corporate law. He has actively participated in the representation of financial institutions and debtor companies in respect to international credit facilities, structured finance, restructurings, private placements and project financings. He has regularly advised corporations with respect to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, antitrust and general corporate matters.

Mr. Romo received his BA in 1996 from Colegio Marista, his J.D. in 2001 from Universidad Iberoamericana, his LL.M. in 2003 from Columbia Law School, and a Graduate Diploma in Accounting and Finance in 2009 from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He was an associate at Morrison & Foerster in New York in 2005-2006.

Mr. Romo advised a syndicate of lenders in the US$800 million leveraged buyout of an industrial subsidiary of Grupo Carso; CEMEX, the world’s third largest cement producer, in the refinancing of two 230 megawatt petroleum coke fired power projects; BBVA Bancomer, Mexico’s largest commercial bank, in the Mx$25,000 million refinancing of the public debt of the State of Mexico; Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd., as lender and arranger of a US$200 million secured facility for General Motors in connection with the expansion of production plants in Mexico; Owens Corning, the world’s largest manufacturer of fiberglass and related products, in connection with the acquisition of Vitro Fibras, a subsidiary of Vitro, one of the world’s leading glass producers.

Mr. Romo has expertise in projects relating to other industries such as real estate, mining, energy, telecommunications, and transportation infrastructure. He also has experience in regulatory matters including advice to domestic and foreign corporations in connection with the authorization, incorporation, organization and operation of financial institutions in Mexico.

Mr. Romo taught the course Introduction to Constitutional and Administrative Law to business students at Universidad Iberoamericana and is a member of Barra Mexicana de Abogados.
